Top Salon Tallahassee 2012

First of all, we would like thank everyone for nominating us for Top Salon 2012.

Top Salon is an event in the area of Tallahassee, FL where thirteen salons are nominated to compete for the title of Tallahassee’s Top Salon. The competing salons will do a complete makeover on a model and the transformations will be revealed on a runway show.  A panel of judges and all attendees will cast votes to determine the winner. The winner of the event has a charity of their choice that all proceeds go toward. This year’s runway show will be held on February 18th 6PM at the University Club Center.

The model that we have chosen for this event is a beautiful woman with a heartfelt story. She started her new life in America as a newlywed from India 10 years ago. Since her move she has become a mother of two with very little time for herself. She is pondering new opportunities to restart a career that has been on hold. She is hoping that this makeover will give her the confidence she needs and help her live out her American Dream.

We are going to give her a fresh start to her American Dream!

Our charity is the Ronald McDonald House which is a program that provides a “home-away-from-home” for families so they can stay close by their hospitalized child at little or no cost.  Their Houses are built on the simple idea that nothing else should matter when a family is focused on healing their child – not where they can afford to stay, where they will get their next meal or where they will lay their head at night to rest.

We are not only trying to be the best for us, but for our clients, our families, our community, and the environment. Thank you again for this opportunity! We can’t wait to celebrate this exciting event with everyone!

COME AND SUPPORT SO PURE!

Tickets are $50 and include one drink coupon, hors d’oeuvres, as well as being able to watch the fierce competition unfold

The Event will be held on February 18 at the University Center Club in Tallahassee, Florida.

Ratna's Story

As I sit here and ponder about my makeover story, I figured why not start at the beginning. Don’t worry. I am not going to subject you to the equivalent of verbal diarrhea and start at the very beginning but rather from the beginning of my life in the United States. I arrived on these shores from India on March 5, 2001 – a newlywed bride who was leaving home for the first time and who met her husband in person 10 days before our arranged marriage. Now when you hear the words “arranged marriage,” images of forced weddings might conjure up in your head. It always amuses me when non-Indians think that the bride and groom have no say in their own wedding. The way I look at arranged marriage is that my and my husband’s parents acted as matchmakers and left the decision up to us.

We (my husband and I) spoke for a long time and I realized that I can see growing old with him. So I had to finally ask Mr. Oblivious if he was willing since I had decided that he was the one. As is the wont of the male species, he blubbered yes (sometimes you do wonder how can any man survive without a woman) and we got married 10 years ago in February. Ahh…you might ask but where is Love? To that gentle reader, I say, there is plenty of Love – only it’s after marriage and expectations are realistic as we adjusted to each other and I gave up some and he gave up some more that we have built a stable loving relationship with two wonderful children.

The last 10 years have been a whirlwind of adjusting to married life and being the mother has left very little time for myself. So when So Pure offered this opportunity for a makeover, I jumped on it and the experience so far has been marvelous. I am enjoying all the pampering and this is the perfect icing on my 10 year celebration of life in the United States. My hope going forward is that this makeover will make me a more confident woman and help reach and exceed my potential as I start pondering opportunities to restart a career that has been on hold for the last 10 years. Where else but America would afford the opportunity for two immigrants to start something new and push forward to building a happy home and a successful career. So F. Scott Fitzgerald was definitely wrong when he said there are no second acts in American lives.

A very big Thank You to Saria & her team at So Pure for giving me this much needed Makeover. It sure will make a difference in my life.
